Blue Water Bridge resurfacing project is underway
Point Edward/Sarnia, ON, CAN (April 13, 2015) – The Blue Water Bridge international crossing was partially closed beginning on Sunday, March 29, 2015 for the resurfacing of its original span. The bridge is expected to be re-opened by June 30, 2015. Bridge owners, the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) are coordinating the construction project.
The Canada bound span, built in 1997, is being used to accommodate international traffic in both directions during the project. Since the work began, traffic has been moving well with minimal delays in either direction.
This important project demonstrates the long-term commitment by FBCL and MDOT to maintain and preserve the safety and reliability of the Blue Water Bridge. Helping to minimize and manage short-term traffic delays for cross-border travelers is an integral part of the project.
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Customs Border Protection (CBP) are continuing to provide regular inspections as well as NEXUS, F.A.S.T. and bus processing. Wide loads will be restricted to less than 3.35 metres (11ft), and bicyclists cannot be accommodated during the construction.

FBCL, a federal Crown Corporation owns and operates the Canadian side of the Blue Water Bridge. The international crossing extends across the St. Clair River between Point Edward/Sarnia, ON, CAN and Port Huron, MI, USA. Operating since 1938 and twinned in 1997, the bridge is among the most preferred land border crossings for commercial and passenger vehicles travelling between Canada and the United States. The U.S. side of the bridge is owned and operated by MDOT.
