Point Edward, ON, September 8, 2026 – The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) has completed an upgrade to the decorative lighting system on both spans of the Blue Water Bridge as part of its continued reinvestment in the crossing.
The project replaced the former blue metal-halide fixtures with modern blue LED fixtures. The upgrade preserves the historic blue lighting of the iconic bridge while reducing the decorative lighting system’s connected electrical load by an estimated 81%.
The new fixtures have a considerably longer expected service life than the fixtures they replaced, improving the reliability of the lighting system and reducing the frequency of fixture replacement and associated maintenance interventions at height. The upgrade reflects FBCL’s ongoing stewardship of the Blue Water Bridge and its commitment to the long-term reliability, safety and efficiency of this important national asset.
